Electric vehicle charging stations in India will have to follow a common standard approved by the Government, which has accepted a panel’s suggestion to have a uniform infrastructure across the country. The standardisation of charging infrastructure will enable electric vehicles of all models by different manufacturers to be charged at any station.

The Committee, which had sought comments from various stakeholders, had received comments that open protocol be allowed with private partnership/investments.  It, however, said that open protocol is not desirable as standardisation is necessary.

"ABB is helping India to achieve its ambitious goals of moving towards a stronger, smarter and greener grid,"the company said in a statement.

Tata Power plans to device a mix of fast and regular chargers at these charging stations that will facilitate to charge vehicles from both private and public sphere.

Companies such as ABB, Siemens, BHEL and Delta Power Solution India Ltd are among the 14 players who have submitted technical bids for electric vehicle charging stations.
